MP highlights work of St John's hospice shop

December 3, 2013 10:37 AM

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has highlighted the work of the St John’s Hospice shop in Kendal by joining the team to do a spot of volunteering. The shop supports the wonderful work of the hospice that helps so many local families. Yesterday, Tim was working in the shop, cleaning furniture to make it suitable for sale.

St. John's Hospice has nine charity shops in the Lancaster, Morecambe and Kendal areas. Their shops provide not only vital income to the hospice, but also allow them to have a presence in the community that supports it. The shops are mainly staffed by volunteers who generously donate their time and help to ensure the much needed income is directed back to the services that the hospice provides. The shop is currently looking for volunteers, particularly in the afternoons. If you can help please get in touch with Jacky Pow on 01539 727167.

Tim said: "The hospice does an amazing job for local people and it was great to roll up my sleeves and help out! It also allowed me to thank the hospice and their volunteers for all they do.

"The team in Kendal are currently looking for more people to help them in the shop and I'd urge everyone to give it a go, it's really good fun!

"Hospice services, like St John's make a massive difference. They offer amazing care which is compassionate, and of highest quality. I regularly lobby Government ministers to do more to support local hospices and I was pleased to support the shop yesterday morning."
