MP hails train campaign success!

February 3, 2014 4:02 PM

Tim Farron MP & Cllr Andy Shine at Oxenholme StationSouth Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that First Transpennine Express has agreed not to cut the Windermere to Manchester Airport train at peak time.

Commuters, campaigners and regular users of the Windermere to Manchester train were worried that they were about to see their evening peak time train the 5.06pm from Windermere cut from Monday 10 February.

Thanks to a community campaign it seems to have been reinstated. Tim wrote to the Chief Executive of First Transpennine and asked them to think again about these plans.

Tim hopes that his campaign to electrify the Lakes Line will help keep the service in the long term.

Tim said: "This is fantastic news and I want to thank local campaigners for their work on this. It really has made a difference. I told Transpennine that losing peak time trains could only hurt local businesses, so I'm delighted that they have thought again about this plan.

"It's another success in our campaign to protect public transport in our area."
