Windermere’s MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that the town’s tourist information centre (TIC) has been taken over by local business Mountain Goat Tours.Windermere's MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that the town's tourist information centre (TIC) has been taken over by local business Mountain Goat Tours. Tim said this news was down to the 'fantastic work of Councillor Chris Hogg and South Lakeland District Council.

Mountain Goat Tours and Holidays has been awarded the lease for the TIC building in Windermere by South Lakeland District Council (SLDC).The centre had faced an uncertain future after the previous operators, Lakes Hospitality Association, indicated their intention to surrender the lease on the building.

In August SLDC agreed to run another 'expression of interest' process to find a new occupier that would also provide a TIC service. It was announced today (Tuesday, 4 November) that Windermere-based Mountain Goat Tours and Holidays has been awarded the lease.

Tim said: "This is good news and I'm pleased that the town's tourist information centre is staying open. The tourism sector is vitally important for Windermere and services like these really do make a big difference.

"I'd like to thank Mountain Goat for taking on the running of the centre and Councillor Chris Hogg for all his work on this issue, and putting up with all my lobbying! I hope that this is the start a very long term relationship between them and the council."
