Creating a thriving high street in Kendal and other towns in South Lakeland is a key Council Plan priority for SLDC. (South Lakeland District Council)South Lakes MP Tim Farron as given his backing to Small Business Saturday, which is due to take place on Saturday 6th December.

Small Business Saturday is a grass-roots campaign that encourages people to shop locally and support small businesses in their local communities. It is set to be the biggest celebration of small businesses in the UK.

Tim also took the opportunity to thank organisations like the Chamber of Trade for their support of local business and the Westmorland Gazette for their work creating Independents Day to help small businesses and our high street. Tim hopes that Small Business Saturday will build on that success.

Tim said, "I think Small Business Saturday is a great initiative, and I am pleased to celebrate the vital role that small businesses play across the country.

"I would encourage everyone to take part in the campaign on a key shopping day in the run-up to Christmas. Supporting Small Business Saturday gives a lift to the small businesses in South Lakeland that do so much to support our local economy and create jobs."
