MP: Countdown to small business Saturday

December 2, 2014 11:10 AM

Creating a thriving high street in Kendal and other towns in South Lakeland is a key Council Plan priority for SLDC. (South Lakeland District Council)South Lakes MP Tim Farron has started the countdown to this year's Small Business Saturday event on December 6th - when small, independent businesses in communities across Cumbria will be in the national spotlight.

Small Business Saturday is a grass-roots campaign that encourages people to shop locally and support small businesses in the local community. It is set to be the biggest celebration of small businesses in the UK.

Across the country, the national Small Business Saturday campaign encourages people to shop local and support small businesses in their community with a day of events. The research taken after the event in December 2013 showed that some 43% of shoppers chose to do so specifically because of Small Business Saturday.

Tim said: "Local residents have told me how much they care about our high streets, particularly the small and independent businesses. Small business Saturday is a way for consumers to show their appreciation of how valuable these small businesses are to local communities.

"Especially in the run up to Christmas we can help local businesses by buying local and I for one will be doing my bit and I'm urging local people to do the same."
