MP congratulates new Kendal mayor

May 26, 2015 5:03 PM

Peter Thornton, the leader of South Lakeland District Council, will tonight announce a single change to the Cabinet of the Lib Dem run council. David Evans is stepping down from the cabinet and will be replaced by Castle councillor Chris Hogg.South Lakes MP Tim Farron has congratulated the new mayor of Kendal Chris Hogg and praised him for his campaign to boost organ donation within the county. Tim has also urged local people to look at becoming organ donors.

Chris will give his wife Rachael one of his kidneys later this year and will be taking some time off from his mayoral duties to recuperate.

Currently, only around a third of us have joined the Organ Donor Register. More than 10,000 people in the UK currently need a transplant. Of these, three a day will die waiting as there are not enough organs available.

You can sign up on the NHS Organ Donor Register: https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/how_to_become_a_donor/registration/registration_form.asp. Chris' aim is to make Kendal a donor town. 11,000 people are currently registered and his goal is to get 12,000 signed up.

Tim said: "Chris will be a wonderful mayor of Kendal and is a passionate and caring advocate for Kendal. He is in public service to make a difference and I have seen that at first hand.

"Chris will be taking some time off this year to recuperate after his operation and I hope a legacy of his term of office will be that South Lakeland will have lots of people signing up for organ donation."
