South Lakes MP Tim Farron has urged local businesses and the public sector to 'redouble their efforts' to boost apprenticeships in our area. Tim is campaigning to create 4,000 new apprenticeships for people in our area by 2020.
Since 2010, Tim has been working with businesses who have created 3,280 apprenticeships in South Cumbria - and he wants to see that number continue to grow. Tim also reminded businesses they can apply for funding up to £1,500 if they take on an apprentice.
Tim said: "Apprenticeships are vital as they allow people to earn and learn at the same time. Over the last five years we have created 3,280 apprenticeships and I want to create a further 4,000 apprenticeships in our area.
"We can and must do this to create the skills and the economy that we need this is a vital part of our plan."
