Farron Welcomes Flood Funds

December 17, 2015 10:34 AM

Flood victims across Cumbria will receive a grant of £500, following repeated calls for funding from Tim Farron MP.

As part of the government's Communities and Business Recovery Scheme, households affected by flooding are to be given grants of £500 to help them recover. In South Lakeland, the scheme will be administered by SLDC.

Tim has repeatedly called on the government to provide funds to assist those who have been affected by the flooding, and described today's news as "hugely welcome". This grant comes on top of those provided by the Cumbria Community Foundation.

For council tax payers who pay by direct debit, the payment will be paid directly into their bank account. South Lakeland residents who do not pay by direct debit should contact SLDC via email at customer.services@southlakeland.gov.uk or call 01539 733333.

Tim said: "I am very pleased that the government has agreed to provide this funding, which will come at a crucial time for homeowners affected by the floods.

"I have repeatedly made the case to the government that resources need to be provided to those whose homes have been hit by these devastating floods, and it is good to see this response.

"Despite these grants, however, many local residents and businesses still face tough times ahead, and I will continue to campaign to ensure South Lakeland gets the resources it needs."
