Farron Presents Sports Award To Kendal School

February 1, 2016 3:51 PM

St Thomas Primary SchoolLocal MP Tim Farron has presented a Gold School Games Award to a school in Kendal in recognition of its commitment to school sport.

St. Thomas's C of E Primary School in Kendal has been awarded the Gold Mark in the Sainsbury's School Games awards scheme. Launched in 2012, the scheme's purpose is to reward schools for their commitment to sport in school and in the community. Tim visited the school to present them with the award, and congratulated the school on its achievement.

In addition to timetabled PE classes, the school is also carrying out a project looking more broadly at the role of sport as part of a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Students are required to do exercise in the morning, and the school is then assessing the impact which this has on the students' concentration.

Tim said: "It was a pleasure to present this award to St Thomas's C of E Primary School, and it is clearly well-deserved. It is obvious that the students love taking part in different sports at school, and that their PE classes are excellent. What's more, a large number of the students have entered sport competitions across South Lakeland, from athletics competitions through to dance contests. The school's focus on participation in sports is a fantastic example, promoting healthy living as part of a fun, active lifestyle."
