South Lakeland MP Tim Farron has called for EE to do whatever is necessary to restore mobile phone signal to Dentdale without delay. The area has been without phone signal for two weeks following problems with the mast.
Tim has been contacted by a number of local residents who are distressed by the loss of signal.
There is also concern that the loss of signal could also jeopardise residents' safety, as the local First Responder team relies on the use of mobile phones to communicate and be made aware of emergency situations.
Tim has written to the Chief Executive of EE to explain the urgency of the situation and demand that they "deploy all available staff to locate and repair whatever is causing the breakdown as a matter of the most immediate priority".
Tim said: "In the 21st century, mobile phone signal is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Local residents and businesses alike are reliant on mobile phones every day. More importantly, the First Responder team also rely on mobile signal. Every day that this mast remains broken is another day of risk for local people needing to use that service.
"It is simply not acceptable for the phone signal to be down for two weeks, and for EE not to have fixed the mast. They are showing a complacent and disdainful attitude towards local residents who rely on the signal from the EE mast."
