Wool Gathering set to be a "resounding success" - Farron

October 28, 2016 3:44 PM

South Lakeland MP Tim Farron has submitted a motion in parliament to congratulate the organisers of the Kendal Wool Gathering, which will take place over this weekend to celebrate the history of the wool trade in the area.

Kendal Wool Gathering will take place on the 29th and 30th October, and will be based at K Village. The event will include demonstrations, fun activities and displays, all connected to the cloth on which the town's wealth was built. There will be stalls showcasing all aspects of commercial wool products. There will also be livestock, walks and talks outside at Netherfield Place.

Tim said: "Kendal Wool Gathering is a fantastic event each year, adding to the array of cultural events on offer in the area and showcasing the role of the wool trade in our town's history. I'm sure the event will be a resounding success and would encourage everyone to attend.

"I'd also like to thank all the organisers and supporters of this event for their hard work. I wish the event every success."

Tim's Early Day Motion is as follows:

That this House welcomes the news that Kendal's Wool Gathering is being held again for the fourth year running and is larger and more diverse in activities than before; acknowledges the important role that wool has played in the history of the town and will continue to play in its future; thanks the organisers for their hard work in putting together an event that has grown significantly in its four year run; and wishes the event, its hosts and those who attend every success, with the hope of the gathering returning to Kendal again next year.
