Local MP Tim Farron has today visited Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal. Tim has warned that the Conservatives' plans are a threat to local health services and the hospital, adding that only the Lib Dems have a plan to properly fund local health services.
Tim was today shown around a number of hospital wards, as well as meeting with staff to discuss the issues that the hospital faces.
Conservative plans will see £572million cut from health services in South Cumbria and Lancashire by 2021. As Lib Dem leader, Tim is calling for an immediate £4billion cash boost for health and care services, which would include more than £40million for these services in Cumbria in the next year.
Tim said: "Westmorland General is a fantastic hospital, with excellent staff. But the Conservatives' plans to slash funding from our local health services would be a disaster, which would surely see services removed and wards closed.
"It is clear that our NHS needs more funding, and only the Liberal Democrats are willing to be honest with the public about that, and the fact that it might require fair tax increases to pay for it.
"Every vote for the Liberal Democrats is a reminder to the government that they cannot take our area for granted or neglect the services local people rely on."
Tim is well known for campaigning for the Westmorland General Hospital. He has successfully campaigned to bring cancer services to the hospital, and last summer mounted a successful campaign to keep the mental health ward open after it was announced that it would close.
