Farron reacts to General Election candidate announcement

Commenting on the announcement this afternoon of the candidates who will challenge Tim Farron for the Westmorland and Lonsdale parliamentary seat, Tim said:

"It has been a massive privilege to be the MP for our area over the last 12 years. The best part of my job is being able to help local people - whether it's sorting out housing problems, fighting to protect our hospital, or campaigning against school cuts. I am so proud of what we have achieved together, and know that local people will judge me on my record. While the Conservatives offer more cuts to our schools and hospitals, the Lib Dems will invest to ensure that we look after the ill and the elderly, and give the next generation a fair chance in life. There is a clear choice here between me and the Conservatives - and local people know that my priority will always be to stand up for our area."
