Farron addresses Cumbrian business leaders

Cumbria Chamber of Commerce lunchSouth Lakeland MP Tim Farron today addressed Cumbrian business leaders at the Cumbria Chamber of Commerce's annual Summer Lunch. Tim talked to around 150 local business leaders about the need for collective leadership to ensure that the county remains a fantastic place for both businesses and residents alike to be based.

Tim was the pre-dinner speaker for the Cumbria Chamber of Commerce's prestigious event, which brings together business leaders from across Cumbria.

Tim said: "This is an uncertain time for many businesses, with a range of challenges ahead. But they will know that, whatever comes next, I will continue to listen to and work with the business community to ensure our area remains a fantastic place for both local businesses and local residents.

"That's why my speech today focused on the need for collective leadership - so that we can invest in the infrastructure that we need, such as the Northern Relief road in Kendal and the electrification of the Lakes Line. But also so that we can invest in people - in schools and apprenticeships to give people the skills they need, and in affordable housing so they have a decent place to live.

"I'd like to thank the Cumbria Chamber of Commerce for inviting me to speak, and for their work on behalf of businesses across our county. I'll work with businesses to promote investment in our area, to support the local economy and provide jobs for local people."
