Local MP Tim Farron has branded the government's new affordable housing announcement "underwhelming" after it was revealed that it would mean only 15 additional affordable homes would be built in the South Lakes over the next year.
Despite an almighty fanfare in advance, the government announced a plan to build just 25,000 over the next 5 years, which works out at just 15 houses being built each year in every local authority.
Tim said: "At breakfast time today we were promised a new housing revolution, but by lunch time it was clear we were getting a damp squib.
"For the government to only be promising to build just 15 houses a year in our area is extremely underwhelming and goes nowhere near towards solving the housing crisis we currently face.
"While the Tories continue to drag their feet, thankfully the Lib Dem-run District Council has overseen the building of well over 1000 new homes, and has committed to building a further 500 homes by the end of next year - actions are always better than words."
