Commenting on the news that local councillors have rejected plans for a gas power station near Old Hutton, local MP Tim Farron said:
"This is a huge victory for the local community who've worked hard to fight the plans from the developers.
"It is also a good and brave decision by the local council."
"I opposed this plan because of the damage it would do to our landscape and to our local community.
"But also, because the future of our energy needs should be a renewable one - not more fossil fuels.
"The local campaigners such as Alison McGlynn have been vital in winning this battle and I want to pay tribute to all of them and thank them for working with me on this crucial issue."
