Local workers will soon be able to take advantage of cheaper parking in Windermere town centre.
From April a new 'early bird' rate will be available in the 37 spaces at the far end of Broad Street car park. Parking will cost just £1 a day for drivers who arrive in the car park before 9am.
Last month, a report from Windermere Town Council produced a list of recommendations to help tackle parking issues in the town, including the suggestion of an 'early bird' rate at Broad Street.
Local Lib Dem district councillors Andrew Jarvis and Dyan Jones have been working with the town council to secure cheaper car parking.
Andrew said: "This is brilliant news for both local residents and people who drive into Windermere to work.
"The far end of the Broad Street car park is underused, so introducing this deal will help move cars from local streets into the car park.
"Parking is one of the biggest issues that residents raise with us, so we're going to continue to work to get some of the other suggestions from the town council's report implemented - including using the disc parking system Ambleside has to make it easier to enforce short term on-street parking and improving the tariffs at the underused car parks at Braithwaite Fold and Rayrigg Meadow."
As well as plan for the new early-bird rate, the Lib Dem-run council are freezing all other cash parking charges for the seventh year running.
