Tim said: "This race is the perfect showcase for our area. People in Britain and beyond will see that the Lake District really is a stunning location and a fantastic place to visit.
"It will provide a boost to the local tourism economy and it will create a real buzz for the whole of the South Lakes."
Councillor Chris Hogg, culture portfolio holder on SLDC said: "South Lakeland District Council has a long and memorable association with the Tour of Britain including some remarkable finishes at Kendal.
"This year's tour has some great climbs and sprints as well as passing through some fantastic towns and iconic landscapes. I'm particularly looking forward to the Dunmail Raise Climb finish."
