MP leads bid for new deal to attract investment and bring high quality jobs to South Cumbria

October 1, 2018 5:23 PM

Tim FarronLocal MP Tim Farron is working with local district councils to bid for a new economic growth deal for South Cumbria and Lancaster to attract much needed jobs and investment to the area.

Tim has written to the Secretary of State for Local Government, James Brokenshire, to ask for the Government's support for a growth deal for the region.

Tim is backing the cross-county partnership between the local authorities in South Lakeland, Barrow and Lancaster to attract more investment.

Tim said: "The South Lakes is a great place to live, but it often feels like the Northern Powerhouse stops at the M55.

"With the increasing pressure on local infrastructure, especially rail and road, it's important we continue to look at new ways to attract investment.

"We have a much greater chance of creating that growth by working with our neighbours in Barrow and Lancaster.

"Together we have world class universities in Lancaster and Cumbria, a high-quality engineering hub in Barrow and Britain's second biggest visitor destination in the Lake District.

"I look forward to working with our local councils to try and secure a growth deal for the region which would attract millions of pounds of investment for our roads and railways and be a great opportunity to create high quality job so that our young people can have a future in the area they grew up in."
