South Lakes MP welcomes funding support for small B&Bs

May 4, 2020 11:39 AM

Commenting on todays' announcement from the Government of an additional £617 million to help businesses who are currently missing out, including small bed and breakfasts, local MP Tim Farron said: "This sounds like a really big step forward in our campaign.

"Ever since the Chancellor first announced his financial support package, we have been lobbying the Government to provide support for all those businesses that don't pay business rates and therefore fall through the cracks.

"In particular we've been fighting for all those small B&Bs that are an absolutely crucial part of the hospitality and tourism industry in the Lake District.

"As always the devil will be in the detail and we need to make sure that the money announced today is enough to support all our local businesses in South Lakeland that are missing out.

"I want to say a big thank you to all local businesses who have been in touch with me these past few weeks and helped us build up a really strong case for why the Government needed to go further with their financial support - and I'm delighted today that it looks like they have."
