Tim FarronLast night, South Lakes MP Tim Farron voted in favour of a motion to ban MPs from taking second jobs amid the ongoing row about Conservative Party sleaze.
The plans would see MPs prevented from taking paid consultancies or directorships.
However the motion was voted down by Conservative MPs by 231 votes to 282 votes.
Tim was the only Cumbrian MP to vote in favour of the ban.
Tim said: "If you're going to do your job properly, and I mean not just being a legislator but someone who's immersed in their community, trying to represent it, advocate for it, understand it and care for it, how have you got time to do another job?
"This Conservative sleaze scandal has massively tarnished the reputation of both MPs and Parliament and so it's vital for our democracy that we take action to stop this.
"Last night's vote could have been an important step forward in cleaning up our politics, so I'm really disappointed to see Conservative MPs vote this down."
